The Showrunner Shares He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... For Now.
The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”
Now that Season 1 of the hit series reaching its finale—and the next chapter officially in the works—Gilligan and his team opened up about the fan response and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.
On the Overwhelming Viewer Reception
One could easily to get sidetracked by the rampant praise and online debates regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to steer clear of all that.
“It feels like force fed your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it through word of mouth, and that's on purpose. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”
In spite of trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.
“It is not our goal to tailor anything,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by online forums.”
“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” he chimes in.
A Pressing Query: Has the creator Know the Ending of Pluribus?
Considering the writers are not listening by audience theories, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? In short yes… in a way.
“We have some compelling concepts about where the show might end up,” Gilligan says. “however, we remain prepared to throw out a good idea for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”
Alternatively, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.
“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”
Then again, one could always use the legendary finales?
“My dream is Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.
Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
