The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL side.
Departure from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
