Netflix Selects Spot-On Actor for Bon Clay in the Hit Series Upcoming Installment
Baroque Works is geared up to play a huge role in the forthcoming season on Netflix of One Piece, although the major clash won’t take place until season 3, and a cherished, fan-favorite member has now been chosen.
Netflix announced this week that the skilled actor is now part of the One Piece upcoming season’s lineup and will portray Bon Clay. Bon Clay possesses the power to transform into an exact copy of any individual they’ve laid a hand on with their right hand. Escola, who is non-binary and goes by they/them, will portray a version of that figure re-envisioned as non-binary, rather than as a drag artist, in the live-action show, unlike the source material and animated series.
Escola is joined by multiple fresh additions tasked with bringing the group to reality, featuring head the main antagonist, brought to life by the seasoned performer, an emerging star as Miss Goldenweek, and an accomplished actor, who will appear as the lineup as the monarch of the desert kingdom.
Even though the role is a major member of the group, the character will be introduced in One Piece the upcoming installment. With season 2 likely to portray the Little Garden storyline, this signals a significant shift in the timing of their first appearance, one that could suggest more adjustments to the narrative framework.
Escola’s blend of sharp comedic timing and deep sensitivity makes them a standout choice for the part. Along with their recent voice performance in the animated feature Boys Go to Jupiter, they garnered significant recognition and multiple awards for creating and performing in the successful stage production Oh Mary!, highlighting the versatility they’ll add to one of One Piece’s most celebrated characters.
Netflix's live-action One Piece program is set to return for its second season on March 10th, 2026.
