Jets Head Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will be OK after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “upbeat” during their recent conversation.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn commented. “His wife and child, they are holding up and he is expected to recover fully.”

The coach did not know when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where he is reported as serious yet stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” Glenn remarked. “But I will say this, just talking to him, he felt really upbeat. Furthermore, that reassures me, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD shared security footage earlier this week of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident is currently under review and police mentioned it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. There were no additional victims were reported.

The incident occurred just after 2am on Sunday near MSG and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.

Glenn said Boyd has occupied his thinking “a ton” since the news broke. The coach said that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a child.

“The first thing I thought about, he has a new baby,” Glenn noted. “I thought of his spouse, worrying about his newborn and I hope he recovers fully. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There’s a process to this, I’ll keep private, but It is reassuring that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd hasn’t played during the current season, after joining the team, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with a shoulder issue that needed an operation.

He joined the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was expected to be a key part of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on 2 August and was carted from the field.

Boyd continued to be present during the entire campaign while working his way back.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn said. “Certainly, he attends every game. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, from Texas, began his career with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in 2019. He signed with Arizona in last year and moved to Houston’s squad later that season. Boyd signed a one-year contract valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
