Brian Eno Calls On Support to Propel Together for Palestine Track to UK Festive Top Spot.
A campaign is aiming to launch a cultural melody to the Christmas number one spot. The campaign seeks to provide aid to people in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
An Opportunity for Unity and an "Unlikely Coup"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to show solidarity with Palestinians this festive season. He acknowledged the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“That would be amazing if that happened, yes,” he stated. “I won't be completely disappointed if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”
Defiant Message of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's defiant core message.
“It has a profound significance for many individuals,” Barghouti said. “The essence is that I would choose to perish with honor than spend my life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we desire to exist a life of dignity that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Contributing Musicians
The track was produced following a solidarity show held in the autumn. Initially planned to be performed and recorded live, the piece was cut from the show due to time constraints.
The notable list of musicians appearing on Lullaby features a range of well-known figures from the industry. All took part in the earlier concert, which successfully generated a substantial amount for charitable causes.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was crafted by a team of music creators. The track features a combination of the traditional Arabic lyrics with new English lyrics.
The group managing the campaign have stated that their aim is to collect the highest amount for a dedicated fund. These proceeds will be allocated to Palestinian causes through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“There is no a fixed goal,” a spokesperson explained. “We will pursue whatever we can get. Of course, the higher the total, the greater the impact. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”
The reality in the area was described as its profound destruction, with a huge proportion of infrastructure reportedly in ruins or severely impacted.
“In that context, a couple of million won't make that much difference. But I think what truly matters is primarily making this cause better known and showing the human dimension of the story.”
The song is set to be released on Friday. Additionally, a video of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a major video platform from later in the month.
