Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was natural for concerns to be asked about his future after a further heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in 12 matches, representing the team's worst run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got significant support from the top,” the coach remarked.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “Through standard exchanges I perceive the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this game yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Issues and Player Response
Slot lamented recurring failings from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He went on, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a period like this with results so bad.”
Jones finished, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“We will attempt to get this team return to its rightful place, prove once more what this club is about and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
